Imports of trout to Russia suffered from the country's food import ban on western nation imposed on Aug. 7, 2014, as the restrictions cut it off from its main trout supplier, Norway. As a result, Chile and Turkey have filled the gap, accounting for over 90% of all exports for the whole of 2015, up from less than half the previous year. Despite this volumes are down drastically, with imports in 2015 down by more than two thirds from 2014. This is even though import prices (in USD) have been substantially lower throughout 2015 than in 2014, as shown by a month-by-month breakdown of the average prices for both years. In December 2014, average prices were $1.76/ kg lower than in December 2014.
